This is a work in progress Fire up dhcp on the wireless interface: dhcpcd eth1 (that should create the device also kinda thing)
The init script (/etc/init.d/wireless) #!/sbin/runscript # Copyright 1999-2005 Gentoo Foundation # Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2 depend() { before net.eth0 } start() { #! /bin/sh # wifi: wpa_supplicant init echo " * [Wifi]: Enabling WPA supplicant..." if [ -x /sbin/wpa_supplicant ]; then wpa_supplicant -B -i eth1 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.
While setting up my new laptop, I’ve found quite a handy guide for getting Gentoo working on IBM thinkpads: Gentoo Linux on IBM Thinkpad Hope it helps you as much at it helped me.
I’m going to Norway at the end of the week to work on the GlacsWeb sensor network project. Very exciting, basically I’ll be helping out to recover last year’s sensors that are 70 or 80 metres under a glacier in Briksdalsbreen and then helping to put some new ones down (in a nutshell!) There’s a lot more detail to it.
One of the cool things about living in Southampton is this Southampton Open Wireless Network or SOWN for short, basically an open/free wireless network run by University students, and perhaps even me when I get back from Norway next month.
I’m thinking of setting up a node at my new flat. Maybe it’ll draw in some nerds to the area?
I’m getting a laptop soon, so I thought I’d jot down some ideas for work/home interoperability. If that is a word.
Cron job or something that tries to ping servers LAN address, if it can then mount server shares If ping fails then have a go at creating ssh tunnel and mount the shares As usual, I found that there’s already about 100 programs that do this sort of thing. I’ll just wait till I actually get the laptop.
M-/ Completes the token (in emacs) or the directory in bash. less whatever.tar.gz This actually lists the files in the compressed archive!
And here’s some useful keystrokes for emacs
The gallery is back (kind of) until Nick (who’s now in charge of the gallery) fixes it up good and proper. Enjoy. Pics of the latest Cube/Academy nights will be on there soonish, Nick has those at the moment too!
I’m well into bloc party - Silent Alarm at the moment, some kind of mad indie rock stuff, resonably accessible to all!
It sounds pretty cool, the lead singers voice may annoy you though. Sounds a lot like Damon or whatever his name is from Blur. More musical reviews here soon.
7/10 at the moment, but it’s probably going to move up to 8/10.
